H is HEART. :)

My heart is so precious. So is yours.

Bow.

I found the words I wanted to say with the help of Leo Buscaglia. He said, “The heart is the place where we live our passions. It is frail and easily broken, but wonderfully resilient. There is no point in trying to deceive the heart. It depends upon our honesty for its survival.

C.S. Lewis helped too by saying, “Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket–safe, dark, motionless, airless–it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.

The heart is where our dreams are born, but it is also a place where offenses, hurts, can grow too. I believe we deceive ourselves when we don’t acknowledge the things that are happening in us- the honesty part that Bucaglia was saying.

And what C.S. Lewis was saying was either we lock ourselves up (to be unbreakable and unfeeling) or to take the risk of opening up ourselves. Of course, with wisdom.

When God said that the “heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked”, it means that we’re deceiving ourselves when we don’t watch out how we let things and people affect us- either we become too affected or we deny.

It depends on our honesty for its survival. Offended? Admit it. Smitten? Don’t deny it. Feelings are meant to be felt (wow, redundant), but they are not meant to consume us. We’re not meant to be emotionally high, but to be emotionally stable. To be strong, not unbending. To be gentle, vulnerable and compassionate not stupid.

So, for the personal alphabet, H is for HEART, because it is in the heart where dreams are born and every thing else that can be cultivated- good or bad. Whatever things we allow to grow in us would shape the way we think and eventually, the way we live.

So let’s take good care of our hearts.
